Voting is More Than Just a Civic Duty

A Calling to Prayer for Our Country

“The Bible gives the necessary moral framework and general principles including guidance to today’s most challenging political and social issues—and how to exercise our stewardship to vote” —Jim Garlow.

With just a week remaining until midterm elections, prayer for our country is more essential than ever.  1 Timothy 2:1-4 is a great reminder to all Christians that God cares about the leaders of nations so Christians should care as well.

“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.” ~1 Tim 2:1-4 (NIV).

Although praying for those in authority is always a good idea, it is even more important to seek God’s guidance leading up to elections. There is no person who knows what this country needs better than God.

Specific Prayer Ideas Before Voting This Election Season

Oftentimes, Christians know that they should be praying but they are not sure exactly what they should be praying for. Revive Our Hearts, an outreach of Life Action Ministries has an informative and descriptive article that lists 7 specific ways that Christians can be praying for our nation and its leaders. You can read it on Revive Our Hearts website for prayer inspiration. And don’t forget to get out and vote next Tuesday, November 6. Your vote matters.

“When we pray for an election, simple honesty will then require us to follow up our prayer by actually voting” ~Jim Butts.
